Travel photo Monday’s – Liverpool, England

Every Monday I show a travel photo from some of my journeys around the world including local spots in Australia like Darwin, Townsville, Brisbane and Alice Springs to overseas like Japan, London, Budapest, California, Vienna and the Netherlands.

31 of July 2008 i was paid to go an awesome skatepark in Liverpool called Rampworx. I was living in London at the time so it was just a train trip. I spent a whole week shooting skaters doing workshops and teaching young skaters. 2 of those skaters were Brian Aragon from USA and Steve Swain from England. Here are 2 of my best shots from that week.

I love the grittyness of this skatepark. The wood is really worn but really smooth to the skate on. The place is really dark so i had to light these photos so you could see the whole scene and also isolate the skater. I love the coverages of my flashes over the wood on this quarterpipe.

This one was a bit difficult, I had to really show the path of Steve from there he came from and where is was going so lighting was essential to tell that story. Lighting both ramps from each side gave a nice symmetrical look as well as lighting Steve but it wasn’t enough. I used one more light just behind the coping box as a rim on Steve to isolate him from that confusing roof. If you look closely, you can see some flare from the flash in the bottom right of the image.
