A few weeks ago i had pleasure of meeting Chris. He has been doing martial arts for over 10 years. He also loves weapons and is a collector and oh!, he know’s how to use all of them. We had an introductory shoot in the city at night to see what we could get.. I also found out its ridiculously hard to focus at night on a man dressed in all black..

Check out the whole post for way more photos and cool weapons..
So we decided to choose an ally way in the city i have used before but this time we moved closer to the street so we could shoot in the thinner part of the alleyway as i was looking at more impact in my the shots with the background being a wall on either side of the photos going off into darkness.Apart from the crappy bins, this alleyway is great. I set-up my lights.

We started off with his swords, Basically we went through a few poses that looked cool. I looking at lighting him with lots of rim lighting. In this shot i used a giant softbox from the front. A gridded strip box on the left and a gridded strobe high and to the right. I was also trying to position the sword to get a reflection from the giant softbox and make it white.

Even though is was wearing all black, light still bounces off the clothing and in this shot the left strip box was more subtle and the gridded strobe from the high right but both are needed to create a dramatic shot. The giant soft was used to create fill.

Chris then got out these crazy claws. It’s hard to see as the claw blades are black but these gloves have 3 sharp claws for climbing and gouging things out!

I really like the lighting and idea of this shot but it’s sort of a little to posed for me but we will be using these ninja stars in future fight scenes.

Last but not least were these really light throwing knives, but also being matt black i had to position them to bounce some light of them. This was the shot i had in my head from the start. Low angle for more impact, walls on each side, nice lighting on the face and just enough lighting on the black suit to see it but still a little stealth.
Thanks very much for reading and check out my blog, hope you like the pictures. If you want to get in contact with Chris for any stunts and acting roles, let me know here. I will be using Chris in lots more shoots so you’ll get to his face later on this blog. We have lots of photo shoots planned..
